The shrine marks the place where the two saints are said to have been interred in the 1st century. The boat refers to the voyage to this village that they are said to have taken after the death of St. Stephen in Jerusalem. The gold-colored jar refers to the spices they took to Jesus' tomb on the day of the Resurrection (Mark 16:1-2). On the table are ex-votos offered to the saints. The words on the stone plaque on the table are Merci pour ma guérison, "Thank you for my cure."
